My work
I have over 30 years experience as a nurse, most of them in critical care. I have been a staff nurse, a charge nurse, a nursing supervisor, a critical care educator and a nursing faculty member. Throughout my career as a nurse, I have strived to maintain a high quality of care for my patients and encourage other nurses to follow my example.
As a staff nurse, I make sure each and every one of my patients receive my undivided attention and I provide them with the quality care they deserve. My license and their lives depend on it.
As a charge nurse, I provide clinical support and often emotional support to all the nurses who I am in charge of. They depend on me to give them the same level of support that they are providing to all of their patients.
As an educator, I thrive on teaching others to be 'just a little better' than they thought they could be. I enjoy the look in the eyes when inexperience suddenly changes to the realization that some bit of information has just found a place in their memory. I hope to instill a high level of expectations and clinical skills to those who listen and follow my lead.
I am proud to be a patient advocate. I make sure each and every person I care for gets what is needed to assure their safe recovery. If it means that I must stand up and speak out in order to assure that the needs of my patient are being met - I will. And, I will continue to mentor other nurses, so they too will provide the best quality and compasionate care that we all will someday deserve.
